With his latest production ? Zone of Initial Dilution ?, the
author looks at the changes of the Three Gorges area transformed by
the construction of the world’s largest hydraulic dam. Before the
end of the task, scheduled for 2008, he is documenting the river
banks and the cities from the ones destroyed to the booming ones.
From the power shifts to new relationships to the Yangzi, this
visual study focuses on the consequences to landscapes and the local
population in the perspective of the ultimate flooding.
This Zone of Initial Dilution, a term engineers use to define the
pollution perimeter of a stream that slowly dilutes itself within a
river, illustrate the situation implemented in this region with the
gradual disappearing of a way of life and its local customs. The
rives changes into a lake, flattens the rough terrain and becomes
usable but tame.
